Practicing Silence: Silence is a Rhythm too

One way of stilling the mind is the practice of Silence.
In the monastery we were silent most of the day and of course during our 4 hours of sitting.
I practiced silence at home in the month December. I did not speak with anyone for days at a time.
I also moved around the house mindfully, trying to not cause sounds.
I observed my mind while living like this. I noticed that the ego does not like silence. It wants action. I did not give it action. I became depressed. Then the depression cleared up and my mind went clear.
It took perseverance, but it was worth it. I noticed that Silence is a Rhythm too.
now I'm back in the thick of Alice Springs life. I like it, but I miss the silence.
